Welcome to The Blog Report

I'm so glad you stopped by and hope you find this blog an interesting read. I've been blogging since April of 2006, currently the author of six public and two private blogs. In the beginning I knew absolutely nothing about blogging. Over the years through trial and error, frustration and elation, and a few tears I've learned a lot. However, the learning process when it comes to blogging continues to evolve. Here you will find a hodge podge of my blogging experiences, useful codes and how-tos, sprinkled liberally with my opinions. Enjoy!

Remove Those Dead Links

The blogosphere is not a static entity but rather is constantly changing.  The average lifespan of a blog is three months and some simply are deleted which means the link to that blog is dead.  Websites re-organize or get deleted as well.  Over the past year, three once popular blog networks became defunct so any buttons relating to them are dead links as well.

An easy way to detect dead links is to use the free trial Powermapper tool.  It does detect a lot of problems in addition to dead links.  It is free for 30 days then $49.99 per month after that which is a bit too rich for my blood!  However, the free trial may be just enough to correct a more few more problems than the free Bad Neighbourhood Link Exchange Tool in the side bar.  That tool will show whether there are any redirects either a 301 (moved permanently) or a 302 (moved temporarily).  It also lets you know if you have too many links on a page or if you are linked to a page with too many links that could indicate linking to a bad neighbourhood.  At any rate, both tools are quite useful and helping to clean up your blog of dead links and problems which in turn should help increase your page rank.
